Wow. This is the 500th NOLA Nature photo. Nothing particularly striking, just the oaks across the street – taken a day or two ago. It’s still fall here!

People, I’m sad to say it, but it’s time for me to have fewer than three blogs. So I think I’m going to stop posting here. Come join me at nolawildandprecious.com and I promise you’ll still get plenty of NOLA nature. Plus other musings, fun NOLA stuff and even an occasional recipe!

I hate to let this blog go, but I also hate spending too much time in front of a screen when I could be outside with the butterflies!

Thanks to everyone who has come by and left a like or a comment. Thanks especially to Ruth, AJ, Kim, Little Things, and Robin for so regularly commenting! And to so many of you for all the likes!

How many ducks?

Look hard and you’ll find six.

Three black bellied whistling ducks (standing), one mallard male, and two nicely camouflaged mallard females.

I sat under a tree for a long time watching and listening to the birds before I noticed this beautiful, delicate, fog/dew covered spiderweb. Beautiful!

Beautiful or scary?

When you come across a jellyfish of some sort washed up on a beach, do you think, “scary” or “beautiful”? Or both?

This one was on the beach at Horn Island, Mississippi this weekend.

The cap of this delicate little mushroom was already knocked off when I arrived. The underside is especially beautiful.

Looks like it’s been a good year for the live oaks.

We were out in the country over Christmas, and the grounds of the place where we stayed were full of camellia bushes, many in bloom.

When I take a close up photo of a flower, I can almost always find an insect somewhere on the bloom. Do you see the tiny spider in the center of the flower?
